There is one grass runway which is 930m in length and 23m wide. It is a private airfield but does allow the occasional emergency landing for airplanes who need to use it. Terminals at Kilkenny Airport 


There are no terminal buildings at Kilkenny Airport as it is a gliding school airfield with a grass runway. This makes it unsuitable for large aircraft such as the Boeing 737 or the Airbus A380. There are hangars and classrooms where the lessons take place before teaching practical pilot lessons. 

Getting to Kilkenny Airport 


From the airport heading south on the N76 will take you to Callan and Clonmel. The N77 ring road around the town carries on south and east on the N10 towards New Ross. To the west is Lousybush and Maidenhill. 

To the east on the N10 is Ballinvalley and Gowran. Bennettsbridge is the small road of the R700. 

To the north west the N77 will take you through Jenkinstown and onto Ballyraggett. To the north and east on the N78 will take you to Castlecomer and Coolbawn. The R694 links the N78 and N77 main roads north of the airport. Car Hire Kilkenny Airport will get you around in comfort.

There is ample parking at the airport for the gliding club members and pupils. There is no charge and it is uncovered. You vehicle will be on grass and in an unfenced environment. The car parking area is very close o the airport buildings, the hangars and the gliding school. 

Facilities at Kilkenny Airport


There are basic facilities at the airport such as a classroom for the gliding school pupils, two toilets and shower room. There is a small shop selling tobacco, soft drinks and light snacks. For a more substantial meal, it is generally recommended that you venture into Kilkenny town center. 

The hangars at the airfield have the ability to hold numerous aircraft. The gliders, helicopters, single prop aircraft and associated machinery are kept there. There is a public telephone outside of the entrance to the airstrip and calls are charged at local rates. Public transport does not pass by the airport.

What's close to Kilkenny Airport? 


There is Kilkenny Castle and Gardens which is located in the parade. It is a Norman castle and one which defines the town's attraction. It has an expansive garden that visitors can walk around. 

St. Canice's Cathedral is in Irishtown and is around 800 years old. At the top of the round tower you have an excellent view over the town center. The cathedral is wheelchair friendly.
