The airport is located 30 miles north of London and is situated near to the M11 motorway. It is near Bishop's Stortford. If you are traveling from the east in Colchester you need to use the A120 which passes Braintree and Great Dunmow. 

If you are traveling from the north in Cambridge, you need to use the M11 passing Saffron Walden on the way.

There nearest large town to Stansted Airport is Cambridge. There is Colchester to the east, but Cambridge has more attractions to see.
